This is a story of sin and greed one of the worst of the seven deadly, it is a sin that is entirely human and man made. We Begin our story in a small town one that is just like many others, it has people, stores and problems.
Robert is a young man and like most young men they want the best from life fast cars, a big house and an even bigger bank account. It is everything we young Americans are told we would get if we just worked hard, studied and did not ask questions.
Robert had just finished collage, as the young orphan of a mother who could care less Robert had done well for him self. To many of his peers astonishment He graduated at the top of his class with a bachelors in engineering . He was no stranger to to robbery and theft. He did what he needed to survive. Growing up homeless in a slum of a small town was much like being the smelly kid in a small classroom.
Robert lives in the the aptly named neighborhood of Favela called as such for its crime and Latin inhabitance.
Things were not easy for him in this neighborhood he had lived here most of his life moving from one abandoned home to the next. For Robert the only thing that collage had changed was intellectual aspirations and his credit score.
On a Tuesday morning Robert awoke abruptly to the familiar sound of construction but what was unfamiliar about this sound was that the construction was taking place on the home he was squatting in.
Robert wakes up (Beep beep beep CRASH) he hears as he grabs his meager possessions Quickly dashing out the closest window narrowly avoiding the Excavator Boom of the Komatsu Hitachi Cat. Now out side he can see the rubble of what used to be his home„ but there was something new in his yard that he had over looked (Notice of Condemnation) he said as he was reading the sign planted in the grass that morning. Well what am I to do now he thought.
With no job or place to stay Robert walked around his small town. For as small as it was he easily doubled down each road twice until it grew dark and with a bit of luck he happened upon an exhaust vent for dryers behind the local Laundry mat. “This will do for tonight at least” he said as he rested his head on what cloths he was able to save. Goodnight! he yelled into the empty dilapidated parking lot behind the Laundry mat. He would soon fall asleep.
The next morning Robert was again woken by the sound of an engine this time it was more distant and less familiar. Robert walked around the store too see what this strange noise was he passed a few cars and To his surprise this small town was quite busy in the early morning. People were going into work and customers were eager to buy their frivolous wares for the day. To Robert these people seemed strange “Why are they up this early and where do they all come from?” he thought to himself. “Useless mongoloids” he muttered, but Roberts ears and eyes were soon drawn to the origination of this unfamiliar sound. “Dunbar Armored” he read on the side of a loud armored car.
Hungry and broke Robert thought “ money right now would solve all of my problems, Fuck it makes the world go around and there is half of the towns money right there, Quickly! I will try the door” he said to himself as he swiftly approached the armored car “maybe the guard sucks at his job” he softly whispered to himself with a devious grin.
Robert gained even more speed as he glanced into the store that the guard was in to Robert’s amusement the guard was aimlessly meandering about the store clearly not focused on his job in this unassuming small town.
Robert dashed quickly to the driver side door looking both ways as he pulled the handle of the door FUCK! Robert exclaimed it’s locked. So short of breath he raced back around to where he had slept. “I need money and that car has it” he said gasping for air “that car has it and where there is a will there is a way, I think I may know the way.
You see Robert had gone to collage to be an engineer as part of a government funded tuition program. The state paid for part of his education but Robert was responsible for the majority of it. While in school he took part in an aviation class at the Reagan Airstrip with in their town and made acquaintances with a helicopter pilot named Ryan as well as his brother Matt who worked as a heavy equipment operator for the air port.
After Roberts short lived introduction in to the field of avionics he never gave a second thought about the brothers of the Reagan Airstrip in his small town. To Robert this acquaintanceship seemed inconsequential but sometimes fate makes decisions for us.
After Roberts futile attempt at grand larceny he thought increasingly more about the brothers. Night after night Robert slept behind the Landry mat waking each morning early to watch the movements of the armored car and the guard. After about a week Robert was able to deduce that the armored car only came 2 times in a week. With this information Robert knew that the next step would be to form a tenuous pact with the Reagan Air brothers.
Ryan and Matt started their day like every other day fueling the plains and service vehicles, lubing the the engines and cleaning out the various bird parts from the aviation vehicles from the day before. They did their routine checks for safety and for function as per FAA regulation. Reagan air strip was officially open.
Robert arrived hours later at Reagan Air strip. “I need to get a feel for the situation” he thought. Roberts plan was to meet with the air brothers and promise them great fortune for an hours work while being as vague as possible. While Robert walked closer to the east hanger where the brothers spent most of their time Robert thought to him self “can they be persuaded in to consorting with me in my master plan?”
Ryan toiled on an old air plain as Matt tried to look busy. The sound of Footsteps came closer, the brothers looked and without immediately recognizing this man approaching Robert said “ Boyz how the fuck have you been” Robert exclaimed with a smile. Robert you old shit you said Matt with a smile, Ryan had said something but it was too quiet for Robert to hear it. Hugs and handshake were given all around but purely for appearance proposes on both sides.
They made small talk about the weather, sports and other meaningless chatter until Robert was able to work up the nerve to pop the question.
Boyz I have work for you and it pays well said Robert and I need your skills & equipment to do it. Robert explained his dubious plan. The brothers were shocked and intrigued at the same time. How much money are we talking about here? said Ryan. Half of the towns cash replied Robert, How soon until you boyz can be ready asked Robert.
Ryan thought for a minuet “ well we have four helicopters one has no engine, the second is a piece of shit, the third is not mine and the fourth well she is tricky”. Well does she fly? asked Robert. Yes she can fly said Ryan. Well then are we set for tomorrow then said Matt.
The next day Robert and Matt waited outside the laundry mat. They had stashed their equipment around the side of the building. They had planned carefully bringing high tension rope, hooks, masks, cutting torches and gloves all that was left now was to wait for the armored car and radio Ryan who was high in the sky with Reagan Airs strips fourth helicopter. So they waited and hours went by. Robert said he must be late. “i do not think that he is going to show today said Matt. No he will be here said Robert today is the day. A few minuets pass and the The Dunbar Armored truck finally appeared, Yes yelled Robert and mike as the scrambled to radio Ryan in the sky.
Ryan, Ryan come in can you hear us? Said Matt on the radio. Yes I can hear you are we on? Ryan radioed back to his brother. Robert grabs the radio from Matt and hastily says Yes the pickup is ready be on your way. Roger that said Ryan. AS the guard of the Dunbar Armored car exits the vehicle Robert and Matt prepare the equipment. The guard enters the store with a bag, it’s go time said Robert to Matt. All three conspirators race to the truck Matt runs to the passenger side door to wait for the rope and to stand guard Robert get to the drivers side door with rope and hooks in hand, off in the distance the faint sound of a helicopter can be heard.
Robert slings the ropes under the Armored car as Matt drops down fast to grab them. In a quick fluid motion both men with the ropes in had toss the slack of the rope on to the top of the Armored car. The sound of the copper draws closer. With what way they could both conspirators climb on top of the Armored cars roof crouching down to try and avoid suspicion.
The helicopter is in view now approaching Robert and his brothers location. Matt and Robert hook up the ropes and hooks in preparation for Ryan. Both men lay flat on the roof now with equipment hooked and ready Ryan descends from the sky.
The guard makes his way to the back room where the safe is kept as Ryan descends closer to his cohorts.
Ryan is in range now the two men on the roof of the armored car. Both men hooked the ropes attached to the vehicle to the rope hanging from the helicopter ( Click) the connection was made. Matt radios to his brother to take off the helicopter struggles at first making even more noise and alerting the guard.
Slowly the helicopter gains altitude as the Dunbar Guard runs out the Stores main entrance with his weapon in hand, he is too late the three cohorts are too high up at this point. Robert devilishly brandishes his middle finger to the guard. Success the three men cheer hundreds of feet in the air. Robert radios Ryan to direct him to the drop off point a wooded area just outside of town. A few minuets pass and they arrive at their detonation.
The helicopter sets down the Armored car and with a thump it lands. The two men on the roof unhook the the rope from the helicopter and Ryan takes off. Matt radios his brother “ Go drop off the copper at the air strip we will be waiting for you” roger that said Ryan.
With the helicopter fading away in to the distance both men descend from the roof of the armored car. Matt and Robert high five in celebration, they are happy now the armored car was theirs and Ryan would soon be back.
A toast to us and wealth Matt said, would be great if we had some champagne said Robert. Hold on I have just the thing, Matt reaches for a pint sized bottle of whiskey he had concealed in his back pocket. When did you buy that? Asked Robert. I bought it before we hooked up the Truck replied Matt He then added “why don’t you take a sip?” as he extended the Half pint Bottle to Robert.
Robert cautiously reaches for the Bottle, With the Half pint of Jack Daniels now in Roberts hand he proceeds to twist off the plastic cap, it opens easily “too easy” Thought Robert; remembering that Liquor bottles are sold with a thin plastic seal over the cap. Did you already hit this? Asked Robert, No! I will after you Matt nervously said. Here its your whiskey you should have the first drink said Robert to Matt.
This was your master plan and you deserve it, I did buy it for you said Matt to Robert. A silence grew over both of them and not one man blinked a cold glare filled their eyes as their smiles faded. (BEEP BEEP) the sound of a cars horn broke the silence, Ryan was near.
Without hesitation The two men locked in hateful observance of each other lunged toward one another. Murder was the only thought in their minds. They both fall to the ground now restraining and choking each other. A Knife is now produced out of Roberts front pocket as the struggle intensifies. Both men fight to gain control over the blade but Robert is absolutely determined to win, he thrusts the blade towards Matt’s upper left rib cage catching Matt by surprise.
The elasticity of matt’s skin initially resists the tip and the driving force of the knife but pressure and strength would overcome this. The skin breaks! and the blade slips in easy, there was no more skin resistance now.
The car that was heard in the distance in closer than before and Ryan hears the scream of a desperate man unknowing of which man it emanated from. Ryan parks his car further away from the drop off point then he had originally planed to. He turns off the engine and steps out to walk the rest of the way. The armored car was just over the hill. Ryan locks his vehicle and grabs his pistol concealing it behind his back.
Ryan walks over the hill confident that the deed was now done in his favor Ryan takes reassurance in his safety as he grips the gun tighter. Now he is within view of the Armored car. MATT! Yells Ryan BROTHER! Are you safe? There was no response.
A shoe less foot can be seen from the other side of the Armored car it was extended past the back wheel and motionless.
Ryan points the pistol forward now no longer feeling the need to hide his weapon. He approaches the Armored car putting his back to the vehicles side. Slowly Ryan turns the corner Pistol first and eyes wide open. His back is now against the double back doors of the armored car. With his right arm fully extended pointing toward the shoe less foot and gripping the pistol tighter than ever Ryan can now see the dead body of his brother.
Ryan steps closer in disbelief, now with his dead brothers body in full view Darkness fills his eyes and fluid can be felt running down his face as he falls to the ground.
The pain is immense. Ryan regains sight for a moment but it is quickly lost as Robert strikes Ryan again with a log hitting him hard in the face. Over and over Robert smashes the wooden log in to Ryan’s face until Ryan’s motion control is lost.
Ryan’s face was no longer recognizable, he was no longer a body but a corpse with a crescent shaped skull.
I’ve, I’ve won! I cheated death and bested the Reagan Air Brothers. There are no witnesses and no one too keep me from my life of luxury all that stands in my way now is the locked back door of the Armored car. It’s time to get PAID!
Robert goes to fetch the equipment that Matt and Ryan had brought for cutting the door. Robert grabs the acetylene torch and tank and drags them to the rear of the vehicle. With two sparks from his bic lighter the torch ignites and Roberts starts to cut the door.
Halfway finished Robert can smell the riches now as he tries to ignore the stench of the acetylene gas.
(POP!) the lock of the armored cars double doors break. Robert shuts off the gas and drops the torch. Now with the biggest smile that has even came over Roberts face he grabs both handles and laughs as he swiftly flings both doors open.
(BANG!!!!!!) A shot rings out clearing some of the smoke left by the acetylene torch hazing in side the storage compartment behind the once locked double doors.
Robert gasps! But air escapes his lungs from the newly formed hole in his chest. No sound was heard except the Thud of Roberts body hitting the ground. Covered in the blood of two brothers and that of his own Robert was dead!
More and More smoke cleared from the Armored cars storage compartment and a young man named Eric Hays the third, age nineteen stepped out of the back of the Armored vehicle. Hands shaking and his mind racing young Eric Hays the Third cleared the empty shell from his twelve gauge shot gun.
Roberts First attempt at grand larceny did not go unnoticed, A man from the store adjacent to the laundry mat saw Roberts suspicious activity, he then informed the meandering Dunbar guard about Robert and that he saw a man pulling on the driver side door of the armored car. As a result of Roberts first attempt Dunbar hired a second guard.
Fresh out of high school you Eric Hays the third now looked around the scene of dead and mangled bodies. The first of which he saw had no face, the second had a face but a blood stained white tee shirt and the third had a hole in him the size of a silver dollar.
Holy Fuck! Said Eric Hays the third If only they had known that there was no money in the truck yet!
